Make over your home for summer
Warmer weather calls for a change in your home. You don't have to do a whole decoration makeover to see a change in your home. Update your home by bringing in sheer fabric, pretty floral and garden elements.
Check out some of the ideas and see if they can help you bring a fresh look to your home
- Lighten up! Summer is the time to change heavy drapes and slipcovers for lighter looking alternatives. Remove the drapes and replace them with sheers. Slipcover the sofa with pale tones or floral.
- Add pillows to chairs or sofas: find a pair of pillows that will add "wow" to your room. Look for pillows with tassels, fringe or beads. Remember these pillows are going to be the accent to your room. You'll see an instant change in the look of your room.
- Re-think the rugs: Replace the cozy area rug for a sisal or cotton rugs in light, cool colors. Summer is also a good time to have heavy rugs cleaned and repaired.
- Paint one wall: think about painting just one wall a contrasting color .You can paint any wall but think about what you're trying to accomplish. Whatever you paint will be the focus of the room: a backdrop for your bed by painting the wall behind, a frame for your bathtub, the wall behind the dining room buffet. Choose a color that harmonizes with the others things in the room.
- Re-accessorize: Clean winter dust off the shelves and begin to replace objects. Bring out ironstones, set up your collection of pitchers and glass and don't forget to include plants and summer pictures frames.
- Re-arrange the furniture: Change the focal point away from the fire place to a view of a garden, placing the conversation grouping to take advantage of the garden scene.
- Clean out your fireplace: Sweep away the ashes of winter fires and start fresh. Fill your firebox with plants, candles or cover it with an attractive folding screen.
- De-clutter now: Look for organizing solutions for your house. Any spot that is overcrowded or unorganized can drain your energies. Try to divide your accumulation into sections. One section can be for a garage sale, the second section can be for things you just simple can't part with and the other section would be the get rid of pile. Once you organize your sections, place these things on shelves or store in plastic containers, making sure you label on the outside the container.
